One of the biggest stories so far this year has been the apparent abduction of Savannah Guthrie’s 84-year-old mother in Tucson.
Guthrie announced last week that she will return to NBC’s “Today” show on April 6. She’s been on leave from the show since her mother disappeared on Feb. 1.
Despite the FBI having surveillance videos of a masked man who was outside Guthrie’s mother’s home on the night she vanished, no arrests have been made, and Nancy Guthrie has not been found.
The Guthrie family has offered a $1 million reward for information that leads to the return of their mother.
“How can someone vanish without a trace?” Guthrie asked in an interview with her former co-host, Hoda Kotb. “How? Someone knows something. Even if that something is someone’s been acting strange for the last seven or eight weeks. Even if it’s just that. Somebody knows.”
I asked what your thoughts on the case are, and here’s what you said:
💬 “I just don’t understand how this could be. I’ve heard of people vanishing without a trace but this close to home, and all the resources FBI has in these days is mind blowing so why and how?” — Lara L.
💬 “I don’t think she is still with us. I really think the sheriff is a control freak and wanted to get credit for everything. Hence, he hindered the investigation. He should get fired. Now too much time has passed and he totally messed up. I pray every day they will find Nancy. Sounds like the person or persons that took her has backed off because they know they’ll eventually be caught. Someone probably has something against someone in the family. I pray she is still with us but feel that is just wishful thinking. Hope she is found one way or another so the poor family won’t need to wonder where she is.” — Vic S.
💬 “Don’t consider me weird, but I have a bad feeling about this. I think she was abducted by someone who wanted to hurt Savannah because she did the piece on the Epstein files. Kash Patel arrives on the scene, and stays 2 days with no direction to the FBI agents. Pres. Trump did not like Savannah, as he dislikes anyone who reports anything untoward about him. A mob hit? Maybe. A government job? Maybe. Blood near the front door, but she was take out the back, because both doors were open….as if she was taken out by an ambulance. Or big SUV? It’s just too fishy. Otherwise people would be showing up in droves for that million dollars. Sadly, I don’t think we will ever know. This was just too professional of a job.” — Deb S.
💬 “I feel really sad that she is gone, but why is this story still going on? If it was your mother, or mine it may not have made the paper.” – Syndi T.
💬 “Does anyone else find it Ironic that Savannah Guthrie was the first person to interview Epstein’s victims? I do not think it is a coincidence that her mother is the one who got kidnapped.” — Robin W.
💬 “I’ve thought from the very beginning that she was kidnapped for ransom and died from her heart condition. It’s very sad that she hasn’t been found.” — Charlotte G.
💬 “People, particularly teens, and native women disappear like this all the time. I know of one personally. It is naïve to think that this case is different in that respect. The difference is that this is an older woman who we think wouldn’t be that vulnerable, and the teens and natives we blame for their disappearances, slowing response times. Currently the FBI is shackled by their leadership so thinking they are the same level of competence as before is also naïve. And stating out loud what the family already fears over and over is not helpful.” — DG L.
