WATCH: Rep. Ruben Gallego and Kari Lake Debate Border Security, Veterans Benefits

Lake accused Gallego of voting against the interests of veterans—despite Gallego being a veteran—and reiterated a false claim regarding how fentanyl is brought into the US.

Rep. Ruben Gallego, and Kari Lake were seen debating border security this week—at Sky Harbor Airport, of all places.

The incident happened a week after Lake filed to run as a Republican for Kyrsten Sinema’s US Senate seat against Sinema, the independent, and Gallego, the Democrat.

Fate put Gallego and Lake on the same plane back to Arizona the other day, where Lake bravely decided to stay in her seat and troll him on the internet. Gallego responded, inviting her to take the conversation offline so they could have a serious discussion.

Eventually, she did come up to him—but not on the plane. Lake waited until she could get her camera crew together to mic her and turn the discussion into a spectacle.

The three-minute video is mostly them talking over each other, but there was some policy sprinkled in. Lake accused Gallego of voting against the interests of veterans, despite Gallego being a veteran and helping to pass legislation like the PACT Act, which expanded health care benefits for vets.

Lake also relayed the false belief that undocumented immigrants are secretly bringing fentanyl across unsecured parts of the border, when the reality is that 90% of fentanyl has been found to come across through legal points of entry, brought here by US citizens.

This airport altercation foreshadows what the next year will be like as the two debate and campaign to be Arizona’s next US Senator.
