The planetarium has already closed to start the renovations.
The Arizona Science Center’s Dorrance Planetarium has closed, but it’ll reopen in early 2025 with an upgraded 8K resolution LED display.
Cosm, a Los Angeles-based technology, media, and entertainment company, is partnering with the science center to upgrade the planetarium.
“We are thrilled to announce our plans for the transformation of the Dorrance Planetarium,” Arizona Science Center CEO Guy Labine said in a press release. “This will be a pivotal moment in how we engage our audiences with extraordinary experiences. The reimagined Dorrance Planetarium will become a must-see for anyone who visits Arizona.”
The planetarium opened in 1997, and the upgrade to its screen will be 150 times brighter than it is today, according to the science center.
Dorrance Planetarium’s new dome will be nearly 60 feet wide.
According to the science center, these updates will make the Dorrance Planetarium “North America’s most technologically advanced planetarium.”
The planetarium is already closed to start the renovations, so look forward to it reopening next year.
